Quake funds concert in Malaysia
Akademi Fantasia winner Mawi will hold a special joint concert with several artistes to raise funds for earthquake victims in Pakistan.
The concert would be held next month at a stadium here, he said after handing over 100,000 packets of Mamee noodles worth RM60,000 to Pakistan High Commissioner Gen (Rtd) Talat Munir for the earthquake victims yesterday. Mawi said he was touched by the victims’ plight and would try his best to help them. He called on Malaysians to donate to the victims, adding that the earthquake was a reminder that life was impermanent.
The concert will be jointly organised by Maestro Talent and Persatuan Karyawan Malaysia. At the function, First Secretary and Head of Chancery Ameer Khurram Rathore said antibiotics and painkillers were among the medical supplies urgently needed in Pakistan to assist ongoing rescue operations and to prevent possible epidemic outbreaks.
“With winter impending, our immediate concern is for the injured and homeless victims who might die without urgent assistance,” he said, adding that the supplies would be sent over on commercial flights and Malaysian government planes. Talat, thanking Malaysians for donating generously, said the priority now was to get medicines, tents and blankets to the victims.
