Private sector to provide building material
The Earthquake Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Authority (
This was stated by the ERRA, while issuing details of the housing reconstruction programme on Wednesday.
The government has decided that the financial and technical assistance will be provided to the earthquake stricken people for the reconstruction of their houses. It was also decided that reconstruction will be taken on the basis of the seismic zoning of the area and houses that are earthquake resistant and serve futuristic needs of the people will be constructed.
It has also been decided that a grievance mechanism will be established in the ERRA, so that transparency can be maintained in the flow of funds. Both the governments were also asked to ensure that all beneficiaries have opened a bank account by first week of February, so that the second installment of financial help can be distributed in time.
The authority will ensure technical and financial assistance to homeowners during construction and will also inspect and certify the issuance of the next installment in cooperation with the provincial government and partner organisations (PO’s).
The second installment will be released to the owners from February 15 onwards and it will be Rs 75,000, while the first installment of Rs 25,000 has already been paid. The third installment of Rs 25,000 will be given when the construction of the house will be started, and the last installment of Rs 50,000 will be given after the certification of the completion of houses including the roof. staff report
