Neelam Valley quake relief effort

Aamer Ahmed Khan of BBC News on the Internet has been filing reports from the earthquake affected areas. Recently he sent a desperate SOS to individuals known to him seeking help for the stranded victims of the Neelam Valley. According to him what they need is food rations to see them through the next four winter months. He has identifed villages that have been totally cut off. Roads along the Neelam River slid away from the mountainside into the river.

These villages are:

Chaliana, Riyali, Jagirpatti, Pahelian, Kath Chungi, Kath Ban, Jargi, Chilai, Barian, Saidpur, Bharoha, Mirpura, Flakan Tarban, Ashkot, Guhl, Yaswa, Bandi, Jora, Manduk, Islampura, Parnai, & Seemari.

Update: A reader has added following in the list of affected villages of Neelam Valley:

Mira Qalsi, Kayl Garan, Balgram, Kohinor Syeda, Noora Sehri, Garath Nath.

His appeal was forwarded to a few select persons. He received a direct phone call from an individual of UAE committing volunteers to deliver rations for months to one village. This should lead to ‘Adopt-a-Village’. A few others responded enthusiastically.

According to The Glasshouse Aamer Ahmed Khan is now urgently raising a supply chain of porters and voluntary mountaineers who will soon hopefully be daily delivering half a ton of basic rations to these remote areas to help locals withstand the ravages of oncoming winter.

To spread the word immediately and also to sustain these efforts through the Rehabilitation & Reconstruction period, it was felt that persons interested to participate in this effort may be invited to join a Yahoo Group, so that they may receive messages related to this initiative, post their comments and feedback.
