Kohistan, Kala Dhaka, Balakot hamlets still needs relief
Provincial Minister of Revenue Moulana Asmatullah and District Nazim Kohistan Dr Saif-ur-rehman told The News that entire Kohistan District was deprived of providing aid by any agency. They informed that Karakuram Highway was blocked for four days, during which people of Kohistan district faced hardship of having any medical or other aid. They claimed that massive earthquake have destroyed major portion of poor Kohistan district. Mada Kheil, Batera, Mehareen, Kolai, Sharakot, Kozsharial, Paro, Shared, Khota Kot, Peach Bela, Dubair, Band Khar, Dharial, and Jal Kot were most affected areas, where complete infrastructure was ruined as most of the populace have kutcha houses.
Regarding lack of health facilities in Kohistan, District Nazim Kohistan told that no medical cover was made in the backward and underdeveloped area of Kohistan, whereas facilities like operation theatre even does not exists there. He demanded establishment of Base Camp at Pattan and provision of relief goods through helicopters. Most of the link roads were blocked and communication system was destroyed, he added. He sought the support of international agencies to establish medical camps in Kohistan.
Administrator Kala Dhaka, Latif-ur-Rehman told that no relief measures have so far been reached in this area. He said that main road leads to Kala Dhaka was damaged due to landsliding. He said that they have brought the tents, medicines and food to Darband from where they will use the water channel to reach the affected areas.
Number of remote areas in Tehsil Oghi in Mansehra district also faced same situation where supply of relief goods could not be dispatched so far. Abdul Khaliq, a local has informed that Jabai Khatai, Hari Baig, Essa and Patari villages were completely ignored where all the houses were destroyed. He said the elected representatives could not contact the affectees.
Kaghan union council in tehsil Balakot was one the area which was badly affected. Nazim Union Council Kaghan Syed Moeen-ul-Haq Shah told Kaghan area was totally blocked due to heavy landsliding. Consisting of 43000 population, 4000 mud houses were damaged with confirmed deaths of 280. He informed that public sector property, livestock and communication means were destroyed.
Different areas of tehsil Balakot have yet to be approached. No information about Hangrai, Talatha, Hassa and Jabri Kalesh have reported so far. Dr Ayaz Imran told that different hamlets in Balakot have not traced while the death toll in Balakote only might be more than twenty thousand. Three prominent doctors including Dr. Pervez Shah, Dr Munir Shah and Dr Fazal were also died while three paramedics, Musharaf, Sarbland and Taj Khan also lost their lives.
Meanwhile Army Helicopter lifted a nine eight years old Abdul Jabbar from Jared ,(Kaghan), who went Jared from Haripur to spent school vacation with her close relatives. All of his relatives have died. Major Laiq brought him to Mansehra from where he was sent to Haripur.
