Speaking at a press conference, KEF Chairman Maj Gen (retd) M Rahim Khan said that the foundation in 1996 had established two institutions i.e. Pearl Valley Public School (PVPS) and Institute of Teacher Education (ITE) in
He said that another project of the foundation,
The KEF chairman said the Pearl Valley School catered for the educational needs of talented students from Rawlakot and surrounding villages, covering an area of 200 square kilometres. The policy of the foundation is to give priority to female education and in pursuance of this mission, girls constituted over 50 per cent of the total number of students in the KEF schools, he said.
He said the PVPS had been upgraded to higher secondary school-level and it had already produced one of the best results in the examinations recently conducted by the Federal Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education.
He said that at the foundation of ITE, female graduates were given high quality training for primary-level education. The institute had been shifted to the foundation’s residential campus at Soan Valley Complex with for training master trainers as quality subject teachers in future, as well as head teachers and principals of secondary schools, he added.
Rahim Khan said that the foundation intended to establish schools in the provincial capitals, in order to provide quality education services to the underprivileged and socially neglected sections of the society, and for this noble social cause they needed support and backing of concerned philanthropic and affluent quarters of the country. He said the KES being a non-profitable and non-political education trust had already been enjoying support from concerned philanthropic circles in Pakistan, Azad Kashmir, the United States, and the United Kingdom.
He said the foundation was also willing to set up schools at any place in rural areas of the country for the support of social and economic uplift of the local community but for this purpose, concerned influential and well-off persons should provide much-needed support to the education projects.
Also speaking on the occasion, Joan Atikson, a British educationist who is the member of KEF board of trustees and head of ITE, said that Pakistan needed a high number of highly qualified and skilled teachers.
She said that facilities for teacher’s training should also be expanded and developed and standard of training imparted at the training institutions should also be improved, in order to cope up with global challenges and needs of primary school education.
She said education imparted to school goers should nurture and develop creative, communication, and inter-personal skills, so that they become well-rounded and socially pro-active personalities.
