IOM starts pilot shelter repair programme
ISLAMABAD, 3 November (IRIN) - With more than 3 million quake survivors facing winter without a roof over their heads, the
“Presently, at least two expert teams are on the ground in the remote valleys of Muzaffarabad district. The whole idea is that they’ll carry out an assessment and afterwards, if local communities agrees, they will call through satellite telephone to drop shelter material in the area,” Chris Lom, head of the IOM emergency shelter programme in Pakistan, said in the capital Islamabad on Wednesday.
Crash program for rehabilitating tourism industry prepared
The Government has prepared a crash program for the rehabilitation of the tourism industry badly affected by the recent killer earthquake.
The monstrous earthquake of October 8 besides killing thousand of people and destroying houses, buildings and road networks on a very large scale in Pakistan and AJK also badly affected the tourism industry ; as the quake ravaged areas once were the places of great attraction for the foreign and local tourists, which now present a horrible look.
The Ministry of Tourism has now prepared a crash program for rehabilitating tourism , which before October 8 fetched foreign exchange for the Government and generated jobs for the locals.

BT engineers help quake recovery
A team of British engineers is in Pakistan helping to restore the devastated communications network following the recent earthquake, BT has announced.

It follows a similar BT operation when staff were sent to Indonesia after the deadly tsunami which struck there last year.
