Searchable Database of EarthQuake Victims

A web site has been laucnhed to provide searchable database of EarthQuake victims.

This web site is prepared with the help of students of International Islamic University, Islamabad. At this point they have details of 21,500 injured people and their location in various hospitals.

The website also publishes requirements from various hospitals for medicines and other medical implants. The aim here is to connect the donors directly with doctors and hospitals.

Foreign, local doctors treat 30,000 patients in Battagram

Pakistani and foreign doctors have seen more than 30,000 patients in Battagram in the wake of the earthquake that struck NWFP and Azad Kashmir on October 8.

Lt Col Shahzad, who is the coordinator for medical teams and non-governmental organisations working in Battagram district, told The News that almost 90 doctors drawn from a number of countries along with Pakistanis were working in local and field hospitals to cater to the needs of quake affectees. He said critically ill patients are shifted to Abbottabad, Islamabad and Rawalpindi by helicopters for treatment.


US to double military strength in Pakistan

The United States has said it would nearly double its military forces in earthquake relief efforts in Pakistan.

The higher troop levels will come as Washington takes on bigger responsibilities in reconstruction and medical aid, including the setting up of two mobile hospitals with facilities to perform major surgeries, military officials said.

Rear Admiral Michael LeFever, the Islamabad-based director of the US Disaster Assistance, said via audio feed in the Pentagon that “there would probably in the vicinity of over 1,000 US armed forces on the ground supporting the efforts of Pakistan” probably by this week.

Relief goods reach inaccessible areas of Bisham

The earthquake affected people in remote and inaccessible areas have started getting much-need relief goods to protect themselves against cold weather.

The fleet of US helicopters has been dropping big consignments of blankets and winterised tents in far-flung villages of Basham, which could not be approached for weeks. A pair of Chinook besides flying a number of other sorties to various quake affected areas on Sunday, loaded hundreds of pounds of blankets and tents from Chaklala Base and dropped in remote areas of Basham, about 50 kilometres from Mansehra.

This is to alert all NGOs and other human welfare organisations. A fradulent tent dealer (commission agent) Abid Hassan Sabri of Al Farooq Enterprises, Kasur is trying to loot people by selling tents in dollars not in rupees at the time of this great grief and sorrow. I request to the President of Pakistan, Chief Minister of Punjab, Commissioner Relief Committee and all other authorities to please save small NOGs and innocent people from these fraudulent people, who are making money by selling low quality tents. This kind of people should be black listed and they should be removed from Tents Manufacturers Association Pakistan.
